Worcester Duathlon Results Are In
78 People took to the start line this morning and it was a fantastic day for duathlon, bright sunshine meant that layers were kept to a minimum and a light breeze kept the athletes at the right temperature.
A strong Mens field shot up the road at a pace completing the 4 mile route in just under 20 minutes. Jame Gilfilian (Prmera Bournemouth) came home in first and the field stretched over a good 5 minutes after Run 1, Lee Rankin (DB Max) trailed in a few moments later and then Andrew Halliday who in his first year and second season in multisport put in a tough effort on the race. On the face of it this was probably the start of a tough lesson in Duathlon racing.
In the ladies race Michelle Parsons (Worcester Tri) drifted in with Jaqui Philips ( Cobra), closely followed by Alison Bagnall (Stratford AC). Michelle did her usual thing on the bike leaving the remainder of ladies field in her wake. Great effort on a return from injury.
Finally, a special mention to the village of Peopleton, Great facilities an great venue and if you were spending your buy one get one half price voucher in the pub later you would that they are great friendly people.

Chaserace Duathlon All Plain Sailing
Cannock Chase is renown for its outstanding beauty. Duathlon was probably not on the list of usage but it certainly makes for some interesting racing. The bike course is either up or down with very little flat parts.. The uphill section has habit of re-arranging the pack, very quickly splitting the people who have spent the winter in the cold or on the turbo from those who have had a very idle time.
Male racing looked to be close but in the end James Ratcliffe (Ceepo, TFN, BCT) pulled off the front of the bike to come back in a convining win. Phil Wolfe (Mamoth Lifestyle) dropped back into the pack and started out on Run 2 with a couple of others but then dropped them for a comfortable 2nd. Paul Rogers came in last of faster guys but tore through the field for a solid 3rd.
Ladies was a tad more interesting given the fact that they are always hidden away in amongst the men. WInder clothes make it difficult to spot too. Emear Mullan was never really challenged for her lead, along with Jaqui Slack, Ros Viner and Julie Moore had to work through the bike to overtake a few of the other ladies and the exit to transition Viner and Moore were close together. In the end Viner dropped Moore for a comfortable 3rd place.
Overall 83 very happy athletes completed the race
Next race is on the 5th April using the same course, but double the distance. See you soon.
