Cycling: Successful Sportives Book Available Now

Elite Performance: Cycling is the first in a new series of Elite Performance titles aimed at aspiring recreational athletes who typically train and compete at club level and above.

Labelled "A must for anyone wanting to take part in Sportives, from newcomer to experienced Sportivers" by Cyclosport.Org, the book is aimed at long-distance cyclists, with specific reference to sportive riding — well-known sportives include the Etape du Tour, which covers one day of a mountain section from the professional Tour de France and attracts over 3,000 competitors each year from the UK alone.

The increased use of lab-based sports testing in recent years has considerably raised awareness of the impact of sports science on training and performance, and many coaches, trainers and athletes are looking for more information and guidance on how to apply this knowledge to their own training. This approach is at the heart of the Elite Performance: Cycling, which includes structuring a training programme, training phases, goal-setting, physiological assessment, principles of heart rate training, power creation and output, different levels of training and how and when to use them, nutrition, rest and recovery, tapering and over-training. There is also a section on race day preparations and planning.

With a practical full-colour design and packed with stunning colour photography, Elite Performance: Cycling is an indispensable companion for the long-distance rider.

Nothing In Particular

I had a thought, the problem with these good ones that I have they never really last long enough to make it to the website. This column is supposed to be an update of whats going on in the StuWeb enterprise and so far this year I have been pretty poor and keeping it up to date. I have been doing a few race reviews and getting my name on the tri247 newsletter where possible. But it must change...

The introduction of Chip (RFID) timing has dramatically changed my business model and improved the customer experience no end and those customers can rest assured the money I have made this year is currently being rolled into more/better kit for next year.

Just to let you know where I spent the money, I've purchased a new race camera for you, this was paid for by the advertising revenue from the website. ( Keep clicking). The profit from the 2008 season is being rolled into a purchase for some high defintition kit which means that the running events will get start/finish times (mat time) and the triathlons will get a much better preforming transition equipment and finish line.

My season (work season anyway) has come to a close and I've enjoyed seeing many of you this year as you have been bouncing across my timing mats and I cannot wait till next year to do an even better job of timing your triathlons, duathlon and running event.
