The Three Spires Triathlon Results Are Out!
The September version of the three spires event is always a little more competitive than the Spring one. Everyone is a little triathlon jaded and “easing off for the winter”… Or so You’d think.
Three Spires is a well organised event with all the bits in the right places, large transition, relatively flat run course and a bike that will either make or break you on the return leg. Lots of ticks in the good category, bt improving all the time.
The overall winners were James Ratcliffe (Black Country Elite) in 54.00 dead and Lucy Haywood (Stafford Triathlon Club) in 1.01.17.

Police National Triathlon Champs
The annual police national championships always is interesting and enjoyable as its mid week and all the people seem like they are out on a Jolly, which the probably are. Tallington lakes are welll suited to this sort of event and the transition area mirrored a green Bejing mock up.
11am sharp saw the althletes plow up the lake around the bouys for two laps and off onto the bike. Unforseen roadworks meant a much shorter bike with an increase in laps from three to five. With this a certain amount of bunching became innevitable. The out and back round location run being typically flat eventually split the field out a little more alhough most of the field were in quite early.
Nicolas Jackson from Greater Manchester Police was out the water first, shortly followed by Rich Evans from the Met. Rich quite quickly caught Jackson and sat in the lead to the very end, not looking partiularly pushed at any point.
In the ladies it wasn't as clear but Mhari Muir (Royal Navy/Guest) lead out the swim but as in the mens slipped down the field. 5th Lady out Katrinna Grimett from Hants Police worked her way through on the run to take first place.
Results and Photos are online and ready.

Wombourne Sprint, Adjusted But Still As Fun
Today's racing at the Wombourne Spint was gritty and tough going, weather forced a significant change in the course the night before and ended in a shortened (16k) bike and run course which has the same tasty hill as the end bike section.Feedback stated that the course wall received and the run although lumpier was more challenging and fun. You choose/decide on that front but it made my timing life a little easier.
As for the results... Well In the Gents we had a BCT 1,2,3 headed up with James Ratcliffe who probably won't mind me mentioning him promptly losing his lunch over my timing mat ( nearly) after finishing well. In the ladies Lucy Haywood smacked out a a win with 8th place overall. Check the results section for more details.

Halesowen Cancelled (boo, Hiss)
In the midlands we run short of races and occasionally races run short of participants. With regret Halesowen dropped their race for this year hoping to come to some arrangement with dates for 2009 with other race organisers. Its a miserable affair but with the comfort that Cobra and John Batchelor aren't out of pocket.
The Three Sprires (Chaserace Events) is on the same day just about an extra 30 minutes drive away so that should comfort all your racing needs.
I missed a quick post about the Rugby Triathlon I did the timing for last weekend (31st) cracking events with a relatively large field and a uber-well organised event for a *local-sprint* Definately an event to look out for next year and the sprint fills quickly. Nice to see Hywel Davies doing the sweeping up after winning the event too ( I have a photo too)
