Running events is always tough but add the weather into the equation you can have a complete different race. Just have to wait and see eh?

John Murphy Soft Tissue Specialist Does Mt. Fuji For Living Springs

*

John Murphy, devliers pain free running by giving painful massage. Many triathletes over the years have benefitted from Johns kind (sic) hands so it gives me great pleassure to announce that he has eventually decided to put his power of evil to good use. The Living Springs Charity (who are putting a decent outing at the Wombourne 5k tonight).

John had this to say about the whole affair "Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776m (12,388 ft) and on 15 and 16 July this year I will be climbing it! I’ll be following the priest’s way up, walking overnight to the summit then watching the spectacular sunrise. In all it will be 15 hours solid walking - and I want to use the challenge to raise funds for locally based charity Living Springs.

Since 1989, when Robert and Jane Chapman began taking young mothers and babies into their own home, the Family Centre's services have expanded significantly and now include:

  • Accommodation and support for young pregnant women or parents with babies or small children
  • Parenting skills training and help with child behaviour management
  • Relaxed environment for children to meet with parents who are going through separation or divorce
  • Self esteem and assertiveness skills
  • Pregnancy Support Centre offering free pregnancy test, advice and a listening ear.

By sponsoring my climb, you will help Living Springs to continue working with the many children and families who need this support. Please speak to me, or you can give online at my fundraising page www.justgiving.com/fujijohn

10k In 1:53, And Yes They Were Swimming..

Lots of people are aware that I am big swimming fan, being faster than most helps. I rarely see a transtion empty although, its generally getting fuller when the skinny guys and girls do their thing on the bike.

When people talk about fast swimmers, in their day to day terms they often refer to me and whilst I don't hang around, My well trainined max is 4:30/400m. I can generally manage a 5min 400m in my sleep.

I bet you're wondering where this is going don't you?

Today I got an email with some info which should make you smile it did me as it pretty much slaps me off my high horse and grounds me to the novice level again:

"Dave Davies won an impressive silver medal this week at the World Open Water Championships in Seville, Spain. It was only his second open water swim, yet he'll now contest the distance at the Beijing Olympic Games as well as swimming the 1500m in the pool.

Davies completed 10k is 1hour 53minutes, and led virtually the whole way rather than draft off the pack. He was overtaken and lost out on the gold medal by a few centimetres! Aussie legend Grant Hackett had been expected to win, but finished in 15th place before being disqualified for interfering with other swimmers in the pack.
"

1 hour 53 minutes for 10K in open and splashy water. These guys are swimming 4:31/400m splits for nearly two hours. Right I'm off to the pool...

Chase Race Three Spires Triathlon Results Results Are In...

Well although I wasn't there we have the results for the event and it appears to be a great round up of who's who in the midlands region. Many of last Septembers athletes are absent so its hard to comment but it appears that Alistar Johnson made a good win with Gary Foord coming in a close second. Make you wonder how he's going to fair for the Double Ironman event later on in the year if he's going this well now.

In the ladies event Rachel Stoakes had it all her own way with a convincing win over 2nd Lady Michelle Askey. Results are in the usual place (link to the right!)

Tewkesbury Park Duathlon

* Rainless for the fortunate, results from the tewkesbury Park duathlon are now in the results section along with a selection of photos ( already tagged!). I am still waiting for the 3 Spires results as present and will get those up as soon as I get them through.

At Tewkesbury Park the men's race was nicely faught between Andy Day and Lee Rankin with Rankin coming out on top. Although the look of suprise was a picture I missed as Rankin came trotting out of T2.

In the ladies we have Fran Osbourne, followed by Helen Russell. Russell came into T1 a fair way in front but was caught on the bike although put some time back in on the second run. We've used Helen's Photo on the website as well it speaks to all that were there today..

The Common Cold

*

Well Slow news, I was planning to be at the three spires event on the 4th May but alas I will be covering the Tewkesbury Park duathlon instead and to add insult to injury I have a stinking cold too :(

I though I would do a small amount of research into what makes the cold go faster and whist there is no cure it might be worth considering these points.

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Goto bed at least an hour earlier than usual
  • Avoid junk food, stick to the healthy stuff
  • Vitamin C and echniacia have varied benefits
Here in lies the best advice of the internet, great eh
