Participants For Running Study
A PhD student supervised by Dr. François-Xavier Li and Prof. Asker Jeukendrup at the University of Birmingham was wondering if we could forward the details of this email around the club or to those triathletes who might be interested in their running biomechanics. He is carrying out a study that will look at the relationship between economy, stride length, stride rate and the associated biomechanics during running.
The study is in two parts. The first aims to investigate the relationship between stride rate and stride length in runners vs.triathletes at various speeds and what kinematic factors may account for differences between groups.
The second part aims to investigate the relationship between stride length and economy in runners vs triathletes and the associated kinematic factors that are involved.
We will be able to show movement in 3 dimensions at the ankle, knee, hip and pelvis and look at differences in gait patterns between left and right legs so there will be loads of participant feedback on running technique for those interested.
To take part we are looking to recruit trained male triathletes who have NOT come from a good running background. More specifically, we are looking for people with a background in cycling, swimming or other sports.
Participants would be required to visit our laboratory at the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Birmingham on 3 occasions. All the experiment can be done in the daytime, evenings or weekends. During the first one we will assess maximum aerobic speed. During the following 2 sessions participants will run at various speeds and various stride lengths while we record muscle activity, breathing and kinematics/biomechanics.
If you are interested in taking part or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 01214148746 or 07764761647 or email mxc569@bham.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can contact François on 01214144114 or email lifx@bham.ac.uk.
